Anti-Freeze Poisioning of our Dog or Cat – Immediate Medical Care is Essential
“Paws for the News is about to Air a Very Sad Story Documentary/Reality Video about a Standard Poodle named Jacob who ingested Anti-Freeze.”
The episode is due to air on or prior to March 28th, 2013.
In the meantime please understand if your companion animal has ingested Ethylene Glycol otherwise known as (Anti-Freeze) please seek Medical Veterinarian Care Immediately.
The Consequences of not seeking immediate medical attention could mean complete Kidney Damage and the death of your pet cat or dog.
Paws for the News has discovered the following information:
Prevention of AIRF (ACUTE INTRINSIC RENAL FAILURE) – Also Known as Kidney Failure
Following ingestion of toxic levels of ethylene glycol (Anti-Freeze) is possible if treatment is very early.
Successful treatment with 4-methypyrazole will save nearly all dogs if given within 5 hours of ethylene glycol ingestion, many if given within 8 hours of ingestion, and some if given within 12 hours of ingestion.
Ethanol, also called ethyl alcohol, pure alcohol, grain alcohol, or drinking alcohol still appears to be the antidote of choice for acute ethylene glycol (Anti-Freeze) poisoning in cats, but must be given within 3 hours to have much chance for prevention of (AIRF) Acute Intrinsic Renal Failure- (Kidney Failure).
Early intervention with dialysis to remove ethylene glycol and the intermediary cytotoxic metabolites of ethylene glycol can be successful in either preventing entry into the maintenance phase of AIRF or lessening its severity.
Intrinsic or intrarenal acute renal failure (ARF) occurs when direct damage to the kidneys causes a sudden loss in kidney function. The treatment of intrinsic acute renal failure includes identifying and correcting the cause of the renal failure.
Further information will follow the airing of the Diagnosis and Death of Jacob…..Please stay tuned!
